Mandy and I headed to the Karioi Lodge to do the Kauri Loop Track. It was amazing to see all the big trees. The walk was 1 hour 15 min. The first half was a gradual upwards climb, and the last half was a steep downwards slope. It was slippery and muddy in places, but we took our time with a “no rush” policy for safety. It was great to get out for the day and do something. We had a coffee and dark chocolate along the way to boost our energy. We saw no one else on the hike so we had this spot to ourselves. Lucky us!
To get there, go up the metal drive way for 200m and park in the car park on the left, then walk up to the “Karioi Lodge” and check in at reception for where to go next, or follow the signs saying loop track.
